Bonded Leather Peeling Repair
This video features a pretty clever way to repurpose your bonded leather chairs. I have been doing upholstery and leather repair for 15+ years. What’s being done here is essentially turning the chair from a protected leather (color finish on top) to an unprotected leather or, in this case, cloth/microfiber substrate since bonded leather typically only contains 5% or less of leather shavings/scraps. The only PROBLEM and WARNING I would give to other viewers who may be leaning towards attempting this project is: be prepared for stains. Your natural body oils, dirt, grime, and grease will soak into this substrate and stain it up pretty bad. I’d highly recommend using some sort of protective cover over the surface areas of the chair to prevent this from happening. Especially the areas where your head rests, as they tend to be the worst areas for absorbing natural oils from your hair/scalp.
